Today I am grateful for my skin. Yes, I have eczema. Yes, it’s challenged many aspects of my life, relationships in particular. But it’s taught me so much. I’ve learnt that ailments can often be a call to action. A memo from your body to you. “Hey, Sarit, I’m dying here. Feed me good stuff. And stop stressing, lady! Life’s too short!”.
Just like the skin, I have found that there can be many layers to healing physical conditions, depending of course, on what you believe. It’s highly likely that your body is telling you to tune in and figure out what else is going on in your world – maybe emotionally, or even spiritually. So that’s how it’s been for me, over the last 7 years I’ve been peeling away layers of what’s been causing the eczema. I’ve done detoxes, natural remedies from amazing Mother Earth, emotional healing and spiritual healing and grown immensely from all of this – what a blessing, to be able to grow from experiencing a physical ailment.
I’m now on a Kefir diet, which is also teaching me a lot about my relationship with food, and helping me to create a new one! So I dedicate today’s Gratitude post to my skin. Here goes:
Dear Skin,
Thank you for persisting in communicating with me, until I finally heard you. Thank you for not giving up on me and showing me what I need. I am truly grateful that you kept these messages hidden from the outside world, so that I could deal with them privately and with dignity. Thank you for protecting my internal organs, and for being smooth and lovely wherever you can. Thank you for doing the best you can to heal yourself – I know we can do this and I promise to work with you as best I can. I love you.
As I wrote this, I realised that I may need to take this a step further. It’s great sending my skin positive vibes, but what about all the negative ones I must have subconsciously sent over the years, not to mention the harm I caused? Ouch. Poor skin.
Dear Skin,
Please forgive me for any negative energy I have been sending your way. I know we’ve been doing our best with this situation, and no-one is consciously to blame. Thank You.
Ah yes, blame. What a complete waste of time and energy. Forgiveness, on the other hand, now that deserves a whole post. In fact, I could probably write a whole blog about it…
With Gratitude
Sarit
